Books: What are we reading?

B: Wants to read some fantasy book by a new author involving magic, an office worker, and an old setting (1920-1940). B can't remember the name. Sound familiar?

A: Currently reading Deeper by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams, the second in the Tunnels series.

M: Just read Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russell and currently reading My Teacher is an Alien by Bruce Coville, both are series books.

Me: Wants to read Indulgence in Death and Treachery in Death by J.D.Robb, another series.

A and M's books are for ages 9-12.

Sorry for the late post...dang computer games taking up my time ;)

TV: Winter Schedule

Have you felt a little blugeoned in the head by the numerous commercials out there about the winter TV shows? Mostly just Shedding for the Wedding (which sounds like someone's dog obsession turning scary). I'm still watching the American Being Human, because I'm curious, but the rest? Take a look or watch TV - is there something good in the pile?

Men: Fire Fighters

We live in a house on a lot with a fire hydrant. One day I noticed that the cap wasn't screwed on quite right. I tried to twist it myself with no success, but we live fairly close to a fire station. So after work one day I stopped by and told them, saying I didn't know who to notify for such an insignificant little thing. The nice firefighters said they'd stop by during one of their drills and fix it :) Nice guys. One was a nice, cute guy. I've kept an eye out since then, waiting to see if any of them are outside working on the truck when I've passed. You know...like...washing the truck...

Don't you think they are a disproportionate number of attractive firefighters out there? Okay maybe not, but certainly muscle laden. Follow this link for a video and pictures. Judge for yourself ;)

Chocolate: Caramel Milky Way

Short and sweet.
Tried it. It was okay. The caramel was sweet. I'd be interested in tasting it with dark chocolate though. I know that still sounds wrong; it was hard to type. The caramel makes me think of the chocolates in boxes and it would be nice with that same quality dark.

Here's a review from The Candy Blog. Hmm, it sounds familiar ;)
PS Hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day. I know you expected some holiday themed chocolate to be featured today, but I just received said chocolate as my V-day gift moments ago. Posting on the greatness will be featured in the next two chocolate posts :)

Books: The Perfect Murder

1. So so plot. Man, whose ex-wife and son are murdered, believes the deed was done by the new husband. The husband is dead, but he believes the husband is alive and getting away with murder (har har). In the meantime, a woman who works for this organization (part of the series) has a case which involves the not really dead husband. Parts of the story were hard to swallow. I like twists and turns, but this turned me off.

2. This, The Perfect Murder by Brenda Novak, should not have been my first read by this author. The series which implies that there are a lot of fans of the books and there are quite a few giving reviews at Amazon.

3. To sum up, I will eventually read another book just to determine if the series is really any good, but if it doesn't measure up - I won't be reading Novak again.

TV: Super Bowl Commercials

Chargers or Packers? My answer was no. No, I didn't watch the Super Bowl. I didn't catch the fever.

What happened was we heard a loud cheer from the neighbors' yard. A was, "What was that?" I had to explain the whole Super Bowl Party concept. We turned on the TV when there were 39 seconds left of the first half. We caught the halftime show (which the kiddos liked, but my FB friends did not) and inevitably the commercials. Of course we missed all the ones from the first half. Volkswagon did a great job with at least two of theirs (Darth Vader and sport beetle). I personally liked the Audi commercial with "old money." GoDaddy.co was so scary! Cars.com (talking cars) and NFL.com comercials were cute. The Doritos House Sitting was funny. I liked the Vin Diesel commercial because...well, its Vin Diesel.

If you didn't get to see any of them, check out this site. It has a list of the favorites by the Internet population. There's also all the usual controversy because someone is offended (I didn't say they shouldn't be just that it's what's expected).

Miscellaneous: Meat Water

You know those vitamin waters that have been in the stores since America has gone on its healthy kick? They are in those short, sort of squat bottles and have pink, blue, red, and purple as colors. They are supposed to be chock full of all the vitamins a person needs and are sold by all kinds of manufacturers, including grocery store generic.

Well, someone has one upped them. Imagine drinking water that has all the protein you need. Most of those diets are focused on the amount of protein you are or aren't supposed to have with your mountain of veggies. Protein water! Only, the vitamin ones have those wonderful fruity blends. How will protein water stand out? MAKE IT TASTE LIKE MEAT!

Yeah, you heard me. Sounds crazy. Water that tastes like meat - cheeseburger, tandori chicken, fried oysters, and haggis to name just a few. And you can't drink them cold (mostly) or they may not taste okay. Many of the company's meat water products don't even have any meat or meat by product, making them safe for vegans!

I'm not supposed to knock it if I don't try it, but that is so not happening! For one, eeewww! For another, there is no place on the site to purchase or find retailers of MeatWater. People have commented on inconsistencies with the website as well. And there's this article. Either way it has given me a good laugh and food for thought ;)
