Books: A Gift of Magic

Sadly, I haven't been able to read anything in a while. This is especially depressing because I know there are sequels out from books I'd been reading a couple of years ago and I can't keep up! Anyway, I decided that if I was going to keep up with my posting that I needed to write about something. So you're now being subjected to a book I read as a teen. A Gift of Magic by Lois Duncan.

Read when I was wishing for something more out of my life, A Gift of Magic is about a girl who hates that her parents have divorced, that she's had to move away from what she knows, and that she's lost the companionship of her sister due to a gift - dancing. However, shortly after she expresses her discontent, she discovers she was also given a gift - ESP. And it isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I really wanted that kind of gift and tended to read similar stories during my early teen years. However, Lois Duncan didn't write many more stories in that vein. Most of hers were much scarier. In fact, she wrote I Know What You Did Last Summer. Her books are really more appropriate for the 10-14 age range.

I actually just read this book called The Abbey--it was the writer's first book. It was pretty decent but I could tell it was a first book--some things were a bit juvenile.

Now I'm reading a book called The Mill River Recluse...just started it but I'm enjoying it very much.

I've heard of the Mill River Recluse just recently. The self-published e-book author did a great job marketing herself and has become a sensation.
You'll be happy to know that Skyler N Smith is re-releasing Partal in e-fomat just prior to the release of the sequel.
Don't ask when we'll get to preview, I've nearly given up. But something tells me that she'll have a little time on her hands soon; dare I guess around mid-Jan?
