Miscellaneous: Nanowrimo

I like to write. Not enough to get something published, but I like it.

So I've decided to participate, albeit secretly, in Nanowrimo. By secretly I mean not signing up with the other thousands of writers. This year I just want to see if I can to it: writing 50,000 words from November 1 to November 30. I've spent a lot of time the last couple of months trying to come up with a viable plot on paper and a first chapter in my head. (You can't start writing until Nov. 1).

Here were a couple of my ideas (in part taken from multiple sources on the web):
A story based on...
the idea that the dead turn into diamonds.
a society that runs on a fortune telling 8 ball.
that real fairy godmothers help you with your career not your love life.

Anyway, I got a great suggestion from my dad...and I'm rolling with it. Wish me luck!

Good Luck!
I'm writing this month too, but mostly in journal form trying to relieve the stress and document the illness my mom has. Being 700 miles away is difficult and there are days when I want to slap my brother through the phone. I want to be with her and take care of her and yet be home with my family too. Being away from home for nearly two months this summer was difficult. And with the hubby out of work again it's impossible for me to leave for any length of time to care for Mom again. The writing has helped me work through my feelings, the angry, the sad, the why of it all. All cancer is unfair and unkind. Kidney cancer has another side with kidney function compromised, if the cancer doesn't kill her the kidney disease will. Question now becomes when and not if...when we were only dealing with the cancer we had some hope that she could survive longer term. If she survives now it'll be connected to dialysis.

PS: I'm trying to light a fire under my author so we'll have the sequel to first edit sometime soon. She's working on finishing it for Nanowrimo. Funny how the first book came so effortlessly for a 14 yr old and it has taken two years to bring together the plots and series of events that will tie the second book to the first. Hopefully she'll have a 17th birthday present with the second book...maybe before, but I don't want to hold my breath. I've been waiting since I was promised the first look in August.

So sorry about your mom. It is really hard for me to do anything but give my sympathies. I am not looking forward to when this kind of thing starts happening with our parents. Hugs to you.

It was really hard to think about plots and ideas - so I know just how she feels. For this idea the stuff is never ending, but I'm not keeping up like I should. Hopefully I'll have news on that front next week.
